Shattered Glass

The Hourglass

Close your eyes, shield your mind,
what you see here harms the frail.
She is real, he is not,
she might vanish, he’ll prevail.

Fix your eyes on the path before you,
never stray and never turn back.
Here where fates cross, intertwine,
prophecies are all but done.

Clocks are stopped, no longer tick,
for the walls here are of glass.
The sand flows from up to down,
down to up, and around you.

    The ivory hourglass,
    from white to black,
    from now to then,
    from here to there.
    The ivory stronghold,
    where crows await,
    where ravens sleep,
    where demons lead the way…

When skies turn red there is no hope,
a king will crownless fall.
The lion falls on a rock black,
the winds in storm still blow.

Darkness took what was once light
and hid the stars from view.
The wiseman opened a gate to hell
and hung the sinners weak.

A wiseman born with powers great,
with darkness from a past,
studied stars, clocks and gears
to turn around the wheel.

    The ivory hourglass,
    from white to black,
    from now to then,
    from here to there.
    The ivory stronghold,
    where crows await,
    where ravens sleep,
    where demons lead the way…

Eighteen springs in darkness passed,
eighteen winters raged.
In the walls of lions white
an hourglass foretold doom.

Never look behind, never stray,
never think about what you saw.
Remember that what you feel
is always true and always false.

The circle turns, the wheel goes on,
the cycle cannot ever cease.
The wiseman took a foolish chance
and died a broken fool.

    The ivory hourglass,
    from white to black,
    from now to then,
    from here to there.
    The ivory stronghold,
    where crows await,
    where ravens sleep,
    where demons lead the way…

    The ivory hourglass,
    from white to black,
    from now to then,
    from here to there.
    The ivory stronghold,
    where crows await,
    where ravens sleep,
    where demons lead the way…
