Shattered Glass

Opera in Stone

All it takes is one moment
to ruin what took years.
All it takes is one man
and a gun in hand.

This is my song with words he once spoke,
for this is an opera with my life’s tale.
And operas always end
in tragedy.

    Hands that held me tight,
    held me safe and warm.
    He who needed me,
    he who was my son.
    She who guided me,
    all for my sins fell.
    All that I am
    forever lies written in stone.

Blood on the stone was washed off by rain,
but some wounds never will heal.
A child’s heart broken will never be whole,
some tears will never dry.

Life ends in darkness, silence and pain,
death births legends and vows.
From shadows emerges a dark torch’s light,
a hero’s birthing scream.

All it takes is one moment
to ruin a whole life.
It takes years to rebuild,
renew and reforge.

And some wounds still cannot heal.

    Hands that held me tight,
    held me safe and warm.
    He who needed me,
    he who was my son.
    She who guided me,
    all for my sins fell.
    All that I am
    forever lies written in stone.

What began on pages written with blood
has since spelled “vengeance” thrice.
A promise was made with twin roses red,
by tombstones carved in white.

To defeat one’s own pain,
one’s fear and nightmare,
one must become what hurts.
To keep an oath made
one must be more than a man,
a legend that never dies.

Some tears never dry,
some hearts always bleed,
but ideals can never die.
Most things still can change,
the night can rise up,
an opera may never end.

    Hands that held me tight,
    held me safe and warm.
    He who needed me,
    he who was my son.
    She who guided me,
    all for my sins fell.
    All that I am
    forever lies written in stone.
