Shattered Glass

Rites of Passage (Lazarus)

YOU try to write about a character that irks you…

Come inside,
eternity awaits.
Follow me,
stand by my side.

There is much that needs be done,
and so few who will do it.
You are chosen, you are blessed,
you are strongest of the strong.

There are many who would try,
but they all would simply fail.
Only one can still prevail,
have the honour, have the crown.

    Listen to me carefully,
    no hurry, no haste,
    just stop and think.

    Drink the poison, sour wine,
take the blade in fire forged.
Cross the gates that to hell lead,
burn the bridge behind your back.
Rites of passage end with blood,
    christen you as Lazarus.

In this chalice lies blue blood,
essence of a flower rare.
It will give you endless life,
immortality and care.

Taste the fear, taste the tear,
taste the glory of a kill.
Strike the blow, cut the heart,
be one with your destiny.

Only you, my only love,
can prevail where others failed.
Only you, the knight in black,
worthy are of my hand.

    Listen to me carefully,
    no hurry, no haste,
    just stop and think.

    Drink the poison, sour wine,
take the blade in fire forged.
Cross the gates that to hell lead,
burn the bridge behind your back.
Rites of passage end with blood,
    christen you as Lazarus.

    Drink the poison, sour wine,
take the blade in fire forged.
Cross the gates that to hell lead,
burn the bridge behind your back.
Rites of passage end with blood,
    christen you as Lazarus.

Remove that mask which hides who you are,
remember which face your true is.
Leave that life, and in this pool
start anew and take my hand.

My heart years to crown you as
our king, my Lazarus…

    Drink the poison, sour wine,
take the blade in fire forged.
Cross the gates that to hell lead,
burn the bridge behind your back.
Rites of passage end with blood,
    christen you as Lazarus.
